Happy Easter

Wishing you a very happy Easter! May it be filled with lots of love and family as we celebrate the resurrection of Christ Jesus. For those who may not believe the way I do, I still wish you a happy and love filled day. May Gods' blessings of new life fill each home around the world and may the love of Jesus continue to fill the earth.
Happy Easter,

A Day To Spare....

This month for the stitch along that Chooky is hosting on the stitch-a-long blog, our project was this cute little pin cushion. Of course I took some liberty and just used a solid circle for the center top and bottom. The little squares were too fiddly at their size. I like how this little pin keep turned out.

Lovely Eggs.....

I just wanted to pop in and show what I won this past week. Heidi was having an awesome giveaway on her blog for these amazing eggs that she makes. She gave away three sets, one large set of eggs and two smaller sized sets of eggs. I won the larger set!:) They came in the mail on today. I am so in love with them. They are absolutely gorgeous. She also makes wonderful pillows and has all kinds of decorating tips on her blog. You should take time and go visit her. I have been following her blog for five years now and I always get inspiration from her blog. Thank you Heidi for sharing your creative muse with us in this wonderful giveaway. These eggs are so wonderful you could leave them out all spring. I will be back later to show how I have them displayed.
Until next time,

I have made this cute doily as a coaster for my side table next to my sewing chair. I will be making more of these in the future. I am trying to use up some of my cotton crochet stash.

BaD Block A Day Results

I am behind on posting this as it should have been up on Monday. I had one of those life happens events and could not post at that time. So here are all the blocks from last week. I only completed two klosjes this past week.:( But I am already doing better on those for this week. I did make a total of five blocks for Bliss's quilt last week. After the blocks are finished I will then do all the embroidery for her on.(I talked about this in the post for FNSI)
I also added 22 1/2 rows to the afghan this past week as well. So that is coming along nicely. I still have more colors to add before I do a repeat of the colors. I am hoping to have each color used by the end of the week so I can start the repeat. At least that is the goal I have set for myself.
And I just had to do a few more yoyo's, they are so addictive I should have known that I could not just set them aside. I made a total of 25. That's why the klosjes did not get made this week!:)
All in all I had a very productive week last week, then it went south and I could not get more accomplished. I am pleased with what I did accomplish though.
Happy Stitching,
Wendy

Stitch Me Up...

I was supposed to have posted this on Monday the 25th for part of the Stitch Me Up blog hop. I was not able to do so at the time because I had one of those life happens moments in my family, but wanted to post what I did make for the hop. I made this cute little pillow with one of the little girls that Madame Samm had sketched out. I think she turned out really cute and she will be going to a new home very soon.

A Winner.....And Another Box to Giveway

The winner of the "Traveling Stash" box is Terry! Terry email me your snail mail and I will get the box in the mail to you.

Now here is the second box ready for giveaway. I do have to say this is a smaller box and had non-quilt fabric inside. More on those at the end of the post. Here is what is in the box minus what I have removed. I am also going to remove that reel of lace(taken) and the fabric next to it. Now with that said if you would like to have any of the items being removed email me and I will send them on to you. Otherwise I will be giving them to a local charity to use for crafting with the elderly.

These are the items I have placed in the box. The peanuts and winnie the pooh are yardage as well as the orange fall leaves. The white fabric with the purple/blue markings is actually a whole quilt panel that I have had for a long time. Your quilt over the lines and then fill in to make a whole quilt. I think it is 45" x 50" if I remember rightly. Next I purchased a set of sneak previews for this box as well as the previous box as a notion. The roll of hot air balloons is 2 1/2" fabric that has been heavily starched. I purchased several of these on a trip to Atlanta to see my dd. I have used them so many times and recently used them in my sv quilt I am working on. I would suggest taking some and leaving some if you want or treat as a jelly roll.
Now for those items that I removed from the box. There was some vintage trims that are already packed and ready to go to their new owner. There is this yardage of home dec fabric and that is why I am removing it. The boxes are supposed to be for quilt fabric only. Not a dumping ground for other fabric. The quality is good, but it is taking up space that could be filled with quilting fabric and we should make sure these boxes stay quilty related. Again if you would like to have this I will mail it to you. If more than one wants some I will divide it until it is gone.

Now the fabric below is really thin and not suitable for most quilts. the white with little flowers is like t-shirt fabric (taken) very stretchy and has tons of ravels in it. If you would like these again email me and I will send it on to you. It will not be going back into the box. If you have kids that do crafts it would be good for them.
Hopefully by doing this as the next person adds to the box it can be placed in a larger box. I may add more from my stash this week if  I have time to go through my stash again. I did keep a couple of fat quarters. Please follow the guidelines and rules provided for these boxes so that everyone who gets them will have good fabric to look through. I may add a magazine or two as well. If you want a chance at this box leave a comment on this post only. The drawing will close on Thursday the 28th at midnight central time. Good luck!
 RULES:

  1. Be an active blogger. Post about receiving and the giveaway on your blog in a timely manner.
  2. There is a note in the box that logs where the box has been. Please add your info and place the note back in the box.
  3. There is a list of Rules and Guidelines in the box. Please read and follow these and return the list to the box.
  4. You may take anything you like from the box. Just replace every item with comparable quilt shop quality items equal to the amount taken. See guidelines below.
  5. Ship the box to the next person in a reasonable amount of time.
  6. Due to the amount of postage shipping is only within the USA.
 GUIDELINES:
The definition of a stash is a secret store of valuables. For quilters it's a collection of usable quality products. The stash should contain mostly fabric with a few patterns and/or books and other items.

  • FABRIC:     Should be quilt shop quality in new condition. Scraps should only be included if they are cut for adding to a collection and packaged accordingly (i.e. I-Spy squares, postage stamp squares, etc.). There should not be anything under a Fat Quarter unless packaged like this.
  • PATTERNS/BOOKS:     Should be in new or gently used condition. They should be kept to a minimum (books are bulky and add weight).
  • OTHER ITEMS:     Should be in new or gently used condition. Tools, notions, etc. These items should be packaged if necessary.
  •
 IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER:

  • If you receive a box with anything that is of "poor" condition you should not feel guilty in tossing it out.
  • Only put items in the box that you would be proud to own. The box is NOT a dumping place for all your outdated unwanted items.
  • Items should be free of smoke and pet hairs.
  • You must replace items you take with the same quantity of like-kind items. Replacing more than you take is always welcome.  :)  There is a guide to Pre-Cut amounts below for your reference.

GUIDELINES TO PRE-CUT AMOUNTS:
  • Jelly Roll strips are 2-1/2 inches so every 10 strips is 2/3 yard (plus an inch). 30 strips is 2 yards plus 3 inches. 40 strips is 2-3/4 yards. 50 strips is 3-1/2 yards.
  • Honey Buns are 1-1/2 inches so 10 strips is just slightly under 1/3 yard. 40 strips are 1-2/3 yards.

FNSI...the project

 A quilt for Bliss.....
I joined FNSI again this month and I worked on a project that I need to finish before fall. My sweet middle daughter is going to ministry school in the fall and will be taking this quilt with her. Friday night I started sewing the blocks together. I finished four blocks and have seven to go which I hope to finish later today.
Once the blocks are sewn together I will be embroidering certain scripture verses on the gray sections of each block. Each verse has special meaning to her and there are also a couple of sayings that I will include as well. This quilt was a special request from dd before she leaves the nest. Of course I am using the "Bliss" line of fabric as this quilt is for my Bliss!:) I thought it would be a novelty for her to have a quilt made of fabrics with her name. We laughingly call it a Bliss quilt for Bliss.

BaD.....Block a Day Challenge

I am late in getting this post up as it should have been posted on Monday. We have been without power because of downed trees from the storms on Monday which caused the power outage all over our community. The power came back on about an hour ago. I am participating in the BaD (block a day) challenge hosted by Daisy from here. You can do any blocks that you want to do as this block challenge is to help get blocks for your projects finished. These are the klosjes that I finished last week. Only six just one shy of my goal, but I am happy with the six that I did finish. And while the power was out I stamped a good supply of them for the next few weeks. All I will have to do is sew them in the coming weeks.
A couple of the other ladies are also making afghans, so I also started an afghan for myself and have 47 rows completed this week. This afghan is 200 stitches in width, so is big. It takes me a while to get to the end of the row. I wanted to be able to snuggle with my fur babies under this one.
I am sure I won't get that many rows done again this week as I won't have as much time as I had last week. This is a good start on this and this will be mine when finished. I have made tons of these over the years, but always give them to someone else. I am loving the colors so far. I still have a few more colors before I start the pattern repeat. Next time I should have the other colors to show.
Keep on stitchin,
Wendy

Sherbert.....

I have started another shawl with the thread shown in the post below which I am calling the sherbert shawl. It is a very fine thread  that reminds me of sherbert ice cream and I really like how it is working up on the big needles. I am also using the stitch one then yarn over method on this one. I really like how the edge is looking on this one compared to the first one.
And again I am so in love with this yarn. The photo's are not blurred it is the yarn. It has a high content of wool and is fuzzy to the touch as well as having a fuzzy look to it and is so soft. You will probably get  tired of seeing these shawls popping up on here before it's over with. But I will try and keep it to only one day a week leaving the rest for fun quilty pleasures of course.:) Tomorrow is BaD update, so be looking for some quilty goodness then.

A Shawl....

I am so chuffed about this shawl. I ran across someone who said that if you are just learning to knit you should do a simple triangle shawl. They are easy and just two stitches involved and they will work up quickly on bigger needles. As many of you know, I have wanted to learn to knit forever and a day. So I purchased a large pair of knitting needles and dug through my thread for a wonderful color. Next was to get clear and concise instructions that I could actually follow.  Now a few days later and I have a shawl!:) It is not overly big, but fits just right on the shoulders for me. Yay for me!!! Can you tell I am super excited about this. I see more of these in my future as I really want to learn to do those pretty shawls that look like lace. This is a big milestone in my quest to knit and I am so proud of this little shawl. Hope to show the crocheted shawl soon as it is working up so pretty.

St. Patrick's Day Mini

This is the mini sent to me by my swap partner Danette in the 12" mini swap. I am so loving this little quilt. Also included in the package was these wonderful fabrics as well as some stickers and a roll of green ribbon. A big thank you to Danette for this lovely little jewel. It is already put up with my other mini quilts.

I am one lucky :) girl! If you have not visited Danette's blog please do so as there is lots of inspiration over there! And this is what I sent out to my partner. I fussy cut the little Leprechauns and then used the blanket stitch to attatch them. I used the quilt as you go method on this little quilt. I like how it turned out. I did press it before I sent it on its way. I hope my partner likes it as much as I liked making it for her. I have one in the works for me also.

Whats On the Hook

I really did not need another new project but I have wanted to make a triangle shawl for some time now. I absolutely love the colorway of this thread. It has a muted look and the colors are so yummy.  I had this sock thread here for a while now and decided that no socks are forthcoming I might as well use the thread for something I will love. These work up really fast and I made this much progress in about twenty minutes today. I hope to have it finished soon if I work on it a little bit each day. Also while out and about these four balls of Lion Brands new Amazing came home with me also (like I needed new thread). This is earmarked for a shawl as well. Is this thread not yummy!

Three More.....

Klosjes of course! That brings my total for last week up to seven. Now to start for this weeks BaD challenge of a block a day.(they still need to be pressed) These are so much fun to work with and a great break from the yoyo's I have been making. Who knows you may see a few of those along the way as well.

Slippers

After making the afghan for my dd's bff I had a whole skein of yarn leftover. I made a pair of adult slippers for my oldest dd's patient who is chair bound to keep her feet warm. These worked up quickly and are now with their new happy owner.

A Few Projects

(blogger is not uploading this pic the correct way)
I have been working on a couple of projects this past week. One is for a swap and the other is a s.w.i.p. (slow work in progress) which means this project will take a while. The first project was a 12inch mini quilt celebrating St. Patrick's Day. I enjoyed making this for my partner and hope she likes it as well. I have also been making klosjes and have a good many cut and ready to sew in the evenings. I have joined Daisy's challenge of one block a day or BaD for short. I hope this will keep those little blocks multiplying for me.

I am also working on my one heart a day and trying to catch up with those. I had to wait on fabric for the background to arrive. Now I am playing catch up on the hearts. Hopefully I will be able to post some of the hearts by Monday if all goes well.
Happy Stitching,

FNWF Sew In...

I did accomplish a good bit on Friday night, although I am missing a few pics as the battery wound down and is having to charge (battery now charged and pics taken). Here are the few that I did manage and I will be back later to add pics to this post of the rest pics are now made. I did manage to finish my tote for the stitch along on time. Pics will come later they are now ready :). Next I worked a bit on the last block for my " Winter Theme" crazy quilt. When this block is completed I will start to put it together. This has been a long wip that I have not been in a hurry to finish. The end is coming soon to this project and I will be so happy. I plan to work on this again tonight with the hopes of finishing the block. We shall see...those blue sparkly buttons will become a snowman....

The stack of waiting blocks to be put together.....they have been waiting ever so patiently for me to finish!
Then I will have to do all those connecting seams to finish it off. I am undecided on whether to do solid borders or crazy patch them...time will tell I guess. Lastly I have a new obsession, Klosjes!:) I have been working on hexie's and yoyo's as my go to hand work when at appointments or having to wait for others. I needed to set both of those aside to rest for a while and decided I still needed something to do. I have wanted to try my hand at these for a while now, I have officially jumped in. I spent about 20 min. last night stamping, cutting and sewing. I have finished four blocks and have five more prepped. I will be posting about this once a week as I hope to make at least one during the week depending on my time table of waiting on others. Some weeks may be more than other weeks, we shall just have to see. These blocks finish at 3 1/4 inches for each block. Small but so fun and relaxing. I had tried templates but decided to go with these stamps. So much easier and I know that each block will be the same size each time.

I also made a pin cushion (no pic yet)(I knew I forgot something) :(, since I had so many projects to work on I allotted myself at least 20 minutes for each one. Amazing how much you can accomplish when you actually block off a certain amount of time for it. I hope the next time I can post pics the day after the sew in. Note to self make sure batteries are charged and take pics as you go.
Happy Stitching,
Wendy
